The Challenge
The objective was to develop a game concept inspired by Arabic culture in under 48 hours during the Arabic Game Jam 2014 in Malmö, Sweden.
The Concept
Twinfusion is a social party game that can be played by 4-24 players simultaneously using their phones as controllers and running the game in a web browser. Players take control of a tiny djinn stuck in limbo who must find his twin (another player of the same color) and merge with them and the two must together head for an exit portal before other players get to it to win the round.
The controls are simple and restricted to 4-directional movement.
The players are at first disoriented (figuring out which djinn they are by moving).
When the players figure out their djinn, they locate their twin and try to merge. (This is not easy, as other players are figuring out/trying to merge at the same time, which leads to some shoving/pushing around by other djinns, proving it to be more of a challenge to merge with a twin.)
Once the two djinns finally merge, the players share the control of the big djinn and must try to coordinate their movements to reach the exit.
Depending on how many players are participating and the size of the room, players might not know who their partner is and communication can be challenging.
My favorite part was seeing two players yell out when they win and suddenly realizing that they were partners all along.
